Small businesses provide the major source of income for many families. Small businesses provide invaluable goods and services, as well as thousands of jobs.
It is important that, as a small business owner, you plan for such issues as:
* Formation – What form should my business take (sole proprietorship, partnership, LLC, etc.)? What documents do I need to start operating?
* Contracts – What contracts should I use when entering into agreements with property owners, employees, and service providers?
* Employment Issues – My business is growing and I need to hire employees. What employment issues must I be aware of?
* Succession Plan – When I retire, who will continue to operate my business? What happens if I decide to sell my business?
During the start-up phase, small businesses face several issues, including formation, strategy, funding, hiring, marketing, property, and taxes. I can help you determine what types of issues you will face, and create a plan to protect your business and set it on track for success.
Small businesses can be organized in various forms, depending on the owners’ needs. Common formations are Limited Liability Companies (LLC), Limited Liability Partnerships (LLP), Sole-proprietorships, Corporations (S-Corporations or C-Corporations), and Family Limited Partnerships (FLP). Depending on the form you choose, you are required by the Secretary of State’s Office to file certain documents to legally conduct business. These forms may include Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, and Operating Agreements.
After your small business is formed, you may also be faced with contract, property, employment, financing, and succession issues. I will work with you to create a business plan that identifies these issues and connect you with a professional network of accountants, real estate agents, etc. to ensure that you meet necessary requirements to operate.
